Sanu Sherpa: A climbing world record holder

Sanu Sherpa has managed to set a world record by climbing 14 mountains higher than 8,000 meters in the world not only once but twice. And has said that he will continue his mountain climbing for a few more years.

In an interview with NepalNews, he talked about his next adventure. Sherpa plans to climb Manaslu Himal this September.

The 47-year-old Sherpa said that he did not climb for any record and said that he had joined climbing expeditions 49 times to help climbers from different countries. Sherpa went on to talk about how numbers of climbers have lost their lives but their families have not received support from the government and how he wants to be a helping hand. His goal is to provide social service in the Himalayan region.

He has returned to Nepal after climbing Gasserbrum-2 mountain (8035 meters) in Pakistan.

There are six Nepali climbers, who have climbed the 14 highest mountains once, but he has succeeded in becoming the only climber in the world to have climbed them twice.

For the first time in 2006, he climbed Chyo Yu, a mountain above 8,000 meters. Till now he has climbed 8000ners 37 times. And among them he has climbed Mount Everest 7 times.
