Senior tourism entrepreneur Lhakpa Sonam Sherpa's "Himbu" book will be released today

A book titled "Himbu" written by senior tourism entrepreneur and mountaineer Lhakpa Sonam Sherpa will be released today.

 Various aspects of his life are mentioned in this book published by SAS Trust.

Born in Pangom village of Solukhumbu district, Sherpa started working as a mess boy in the tourism sector at the age of 13. Having spent 50 years in the tourism sector, he has established himself as a senior tourism entrepreneur in Nepal.

Sherpa, who is involved in trekking, hotels, airlines, and other sectors, has mentioned in the Himbu book that he ran away from home at the age of 13 and came to Kathmandu and started his days of struggle. In the book, it has been mentioned that he went to France for the first time on a foreign trip and started working in a ski equipment rental shop and later started a tourism business by bringing French tourists to India.

The Thamserku Trekking Company founded by him received the Best Company Award from the Ministry of Tourism for 16 years. He mentioned in the book that he established Yeti Airlines by taking a loan from a friend in France after he failed to get a loan from various banks in Nepal to open airlines.

In the book, he remembers his elder brother who lost his life while climbing Manaslu Mountain in 1972, and Brothers Angchiring Sherpa and Tendi Sherpa who died in a helicopter accident. He has mentioned that Angchiring and his nature are similar and both do not like to be photographed and do not come to the media.

 Lhakpa Sonam Sherpa has expressed his displeasure over the lack of government investment in the Khumbu region.

Yeti Airlines and Tara Air' 's Chairman Sherpa has mentioned that Tara Air has been serving the local people in the Karnali region for the past several years despite suffering losses.

He has also mentioned various aspects of Sherpa culture in the book. He said that the ancient culture is in danger of disappearing. There are many interesting things in the book. He said that one day he opened a political party called Green Party and registered it with the Election Commission, but the friends who encouraged him to open the party left later and it was not able to operate.

Lhakpa Sonam Sherpa, who started mountain climbing by climbing Thamserku Mountain in 1987, has climbed various mountains in Nepal. After crossing the age of 60, he climbed the seven highest mountains of the seven continents and completed the Seven Summit Expedition.

Now after 2 years at the age of 65, he has expressed his commitment to take some leave from business and engage in social service. He has announced to start of a social service through an organization called SAS Trust. SAS Trust established in the name of Sonam and his wife Anita Sherpa aims to start social service, especially targeting the remote areas of Nepal. The amount collected from the sale of Himbu books is targeted to be spent on social services run by the trust.
