A Sunuwar Museum has been established at Pokali of Okhaldhunga district for the preservation of the folk culture of the Sunuwar community and for the promotion of tourism.
The Sunuwar Service Society is to construct the ethnographic museum at Bachpu of Pokali in Likhu Rural Municipality-9. A total of Rs 1.1 million has been collected for that purpose. Of this amount, Rs 300 thousand was received from various donors, Rs 300 thousand was provided by the Likhu Rural Municipality-9, and federal lawmaker Yagya Raj Sunuwar donated Rs 500 thousand from the MP's Development Fund, Society president Dev Bahadur Rupacha said.
The museum will showcase the costumes, the folk musical instruments, and articles and artifacts with historical and cultural importance depicting the indigenous Sunuwar culture, Society's advisor Pashupati Sunuwar said.
He added that the concept of an ethnographic museum has been brought with an objective of establishing the ethnic identity of the Sunuwar community and promoting tourism at Pokali which is linked with the Sunuwar language and culture.
The place also has a beautiful waterfall by the same name which is a draw among the visitors.
