A test flight will be held at Sukilumba Airport in Ilam today. The test flight will be conducted by a Nepal Airlines flight.
The test flight is being held at the newly constructed Falgunand Sukilumba Airport in Ilam Municipality-9 before the commencement of commercial flight. Commercial flights are being prepared for flight from Feb 20. Before the regular flight, if the weather is favorable at the airport today, Nepal Airlines will conduct a test flight, said Engineer Binayak Bhattarai of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal. According to him, the test flight has not taken place after the airport was blacktopped.
A test flight was conducted on June 4, 2018 before the airport's runway was blacktopped. Tara Air's twin-engine aircraft with a capacity of 19 seats landed at Sukilumba in one hour and two minutes from Kathmandu. It is said that the Nepal Airlines flight carrying passengers to Taplejung will land at Suketar Airport at 7 am and reach Ilam. Former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal is scheduled to inaugurate the airport on 13 Feb. Earlier, an agreement had been signed between Tara Air and Ilam Municipality for commercial flights from Feb 20.
