Westerly winds may impact aviation, mountaineering

Currently the country is witnessing the partial impact of Westerly winds. The Meteorological Forecasting Division says the Westerly wind that is entering from the western Nepal tonight is likely to trigger light to moderate thunder showers and snowfall for the next three days.

This atmospheric condition may have its implications on aviation sector, mountaineering, agriculture, transport and people’s daily life. Due to the weather change, cold is likely to rise and the Division has urged all to take precautionary measures against it.

Tonight, the weather will be partly to generally cloudy in Province 1, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province and Lumbini Province, generally to mostly cloudy in Karnali Province and Sudurpaschim Province, and mainly fair in Madesh Province. Light rain is likely to occur at some places of Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces. There is a possibility of light snowfall at some places of the high hilly and mountainaous region.

On Thursday, it will be generally to fully cloudy in Sudurpaschim Province, Karnali Provice, Lumbini Province and Gandaki Province while the Bagmati Province, Madhes Province and Province 1 will see partial to generally cloudy condition. There are chances of light snowfall at high-hills and at few places of mountainous regions of Sudurpaschim, Karnali, Lumbini, and Gandaki Provinces.

Similarly, there is possibility of light snowfall at some places of highlands and mountainaous regions of Bagmati Province and Province 1 while light to moderate thunder showers have been forecast at many places of the hilly and Terai regions.

There will be generally to fully cloudy cover across the country on Friday and on Saturday. On Friday, possibility remains for a light to moderate snowfall at few places of high-hills and mountainous region.

The impact of the Westerly wind will continue on Saturday too, and the weather is likely to improve from Sunday.

Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in many places of hilly and Terai. Heavy rain has been forecast at some places of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

There is a possibility of light to moderate snowfall in Gandaki, Bagmati and some places in the high hills and mountains of Province 1 on Saturday, too. There are chances of light to moderate rainfall in many parts of the hills and Terai of these provinces.

This weather pattern will peter out from Sunday and the weather will improve gradually , the Division said.
