A meeting of the panel of experts from Nepal and India has commenced in Kathmandu on Friday to finalise the detailed project report of Pancheshwar Multi-Purpose Project.

Water and Energy Commission's Secretary Sushil Chandra Tiwari leads a Nepal delegation at the meeting while the Indian side is headed by India's Central Water Commission Chairperson Kushvinder Vohra. The meeting is expected to discuss the Project's overall aspects.

It may be noted that the Pancheswor's DPR was prepared by India's state-owned Water and Power Consultancy Services (WAPCOS) in 2016. During the last visit to India by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, from May 31 to June 3, it was agreed to finalise the Pancheshwor's DPR in the next three months. The Prime Minister has insisted on the need to implement the Project soon.

Shortly after the Prime Minister's India visit, a meeting of the Project's governing body was held in Kaski on July 6-7 and the meeting extended the term of the joint panel of experts. The bi-national power plant to be developed in the Mahakali river bordering Nepal and India has the capacity of generating 6,480 megawatts of electricity.
