Exports of Nepali goods increase by 186% in Birgunj

Exports of Nepali goods to India and other countries have increased significantly in the last six months of the current Fiscal Year 2021/22 from Birgunj, established as a major trade port of the country.

Compared to the first six months of FY 2020/21, the export of Nepali goods increased by 186 percent in the corresponding period of the current Fiscal Year. From July to December of 2020, Nepali goods worth more than Rs. 19.53 billion were exported. In comparison, Nepali goods worth Rs. 36.29 billion or Rs. 55.83 billion have been exported through Birgunj in the same period of the 2021 fiscal year.

The main items exported to India and other countries through Birgunj are refined soybean oil, refined palm oil, fruit juice, refined sunflower oil, and cotton cloth, said Sumit Gupta, Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office. He said that the increase in the export of Nepali goods to India and third countries through the Birgunj checkpoint has had a positive impact on the revenue collection of the Birgunj Customs Office.

Compared to the first six months of the last fiscal year, 44 percent more revenue has been collected in the corresponding period of the current fiscal year. Revenue of Rs. 73.55 billion was collected in the first six months of the last fiscal year. In the corresponding period of the current fiscal year, it has managed to collect Rs. 32.35 billion more for a total of Rs. 105.90 billion, according to the Birgunj Customs.
