The ongoing luxury import ban has been extended by the next two months, by the government.
Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies has decided to further extend the ban until December 15, as the ban was coming to an end today. The news was published in the government's official journal, Nepal Gazette.
The ban on luxury imports was first announced in April, considering the usage of foreign items/ imports would gradually shrink. Initially, the government announced that the ban would continue until the end of the fiscal year (mid-July). But, it was again extended up to the August end.
Then, the limits allowed for motorbikes and mobile phones were strictly tightened. However, the government partially lifted the luxury import ban and restricted it to just four items listed below:
