Nepali climbers set historic first winter ascent of Mt K2

A team of ten Nepali mountaineers set a new history in mountaineering realm after the first-ever winter ascent of the  second-highest mountain, Mt K2.

They reached a peak at 5 PM (local time) on Saturday, as per one of the climbers Nirmal Purja's Facebook post. 

 "A very special moment. The whole team waited 10m below the summit to form a group then stepped onto the summit together whilst singing our Nepalese National Anthem," he wrote after ascending the mountain. " We are proud to have been a part of history for humankind and to show that collaboration, teamwork and a positive mental attitude can push limits to what we feel might be possible." 

Apart from Nirmal, other nine climbers comprising Mingma David Sherpa, Mingma Tenzi Sherpa, Geljen Sherpa, Pem Chiri Sherpa, Dawa Temba Sherpa, Gyalje Sherpa, Dawa Tenjin Sherpa, Kilu Pemba Sherpa, and Sona Sherpa summited the peak.

Known as 'Savage Mountain', 8,611-metre K2 is a dangerous mountain due to inclement weather killed 86 climbers who had attempted to climb it.
