Among 15 murrah bulls gifted by the Indian government to Nepal, seven have been brought to Pokhara. They were brought to the National Livestock Breeding Office, Pokhara on Friday night.

At the request of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal during his last visit to India, the Indian government had announced to provide 15 murrah bulls to Nepal.

The buffalo bulls of improved breed were brought to Nepal under the two-country cooperation in the sector of agriculture and livestock, according to Office Chief, Dr Jagdish Pande.

The studs were brought to Nepal via Rupadiya border point.

These would be kept in quarantine for three weeks. The semen collection would begin after a month. It will begin after ascertaining that the bulls are healthy.

"Although the murrah bulls were imported after certifying that they were healthy, it is a rule that that they are kept in quarantine. They are not mixed to herd without completing quarantine," Pande added.

All the imported bulls are over two years.

The Breeding Office has estimated that 15 to 20,000 doses of semen would be collected from a stud.

It is believed that the buffalo farmers would be benefited with improved breed.
