29 gamblers arrested in Kathmandu

Police apprehended 29 people involved in gambling offences from Arubari in Kathmandu Metropolitan-6 on Tuesday.

One of the arrested has been identified as Lal Bahadur BK (40), a local resident of Sindhupalchowk district while the names of the other 28 people have not been disclosed.

Acting on a tip-off, security personnel deployed from the Kathmandu-based Metropolitan Police Sector nabbed them from Wangchu Sherpa's residence in Simaltar.

The police also seized Rs 1,459,920 and 20 decks of cards from their possession.

Similarly, police on Tuesday evening arrested 11 gamblers from Damak Municipality-8 in Jhapa district.

Acting on a tip-off, Damak-based Area Police Office personnel nabbed them from Thirraj Khatiwada's residence.

The police also recovered Rs 745,500 stake cash money and also seized six decks of cards from them.

Meanwhile, police in Syangja district held 12 persons involved in gambling offences from Bheerkot Municipality-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

Security personnel deployed from the Syangja-based District Police Office nabbed them from Khem Bahadur Shrestha's hotel.

The police also recovered Rs 176, 415 from their possession.

In total, 52 gamblers were arrested from Kathmandu, Jhapa, and Syangja districts.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the cases is underway, informed the police.
