Bagmati River Clean-up Mega Campaign enters ninth year

The Bagmati River Clean-up Mega Campaign has entered its ninth year today. The campaign was started with the theme that people would volunteer for at least two hours every Saturday morning to clean the Bagmati River.

Though the campaign is on a voluntary basis, Chakra Bahadur Chand, a campaigner, mentioned that the campaign had not taken any financial help from any individual or organisation till date. He stated that the campaign still has not opened any bank account to receive donations.

Chand also informed that the mega campaign does not even have an office or committee and despite this, it has been continuing for the last eight years.

Meanwhile, Chandra Dangal, another campaigner, said that on the occasion of the campaign entering the ninth year they will be distributing relief materials to the labourers and vulnerable people who have been affected by the coronavirus. He mentioned that while distributing the relief materials all necessary health safety protocols will be followed.

The Bagmati River Clean-up Mega Campaign had been started under the leadership of then Chief Secretary of the government, Leela Mani Paudyal.
