The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has the important responsibility of conducting a thorough investigation into various incidents of serious nature and reaching a conclusion.

The CIB is also relied upon to find out the cause of issues that others or its own related bodies can not investigate. However, a police officer of the CIB, a reliable body of the government conducting such investigations, has been arrested on the charge of bargaining for money saying that he would settle the case.

According to the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DI) Bishnu Dhungana has been arrested on the charge of negotiating with someone whose assets were being assessed by the Department of Money Laundering Investigation.

According to the spokesperson of the premises, Superintendent of Police Dinesh Raj Mainali, he was arrested from the Naxal area and the Kathmandu District Court has extended the time limit for investigation by five days. He was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged with the police. He is accused of criminal extortion. Article 253 of paragraph 21 of the Code of Criminal Procedure contains legal provisions in this regard.

According to the law, if a person threatens to harm someone and dishonestly takes advantage for themselves or for someone else, or if they do something with the intention of taking advantage, then they are considered to have taken criminal advantage. If convicted, they face at least a year in prison and a fine of Rs 10,000.
