Gokarneshwor Municipality starts 15-bed COVID-19 isolation facility

A 15-bed COVID-19 isolation facility has come into operation at Gokarneshwor Municipality-4 in Kathmandu.

 According to Municipality’s Health Section Chief Hari Prasad Upadhyay, the facility supported by the Yagyadol (Jagdol) Community Forest and Lions Club International District 325 A 1 has been set up in the National Martyrs Memorial building.

A medical team from the Gokarna Primary Hospital is there to render medical support and care in the isolation center. The Lions Club has managed oxygen supplies for the isolation ward which is said to be useful for those facing challenges to stay in home isolation.

Gokarneshwor has recorded a total of 4,348 COVID-19 cases so far, 50 per cent of them being reported since the outbreak of the second wave. The locality has confirmed 36 fatalities from the flu-like infection since the second wave while the first wave of the pandemic had claimed 28 lives here.

The Municipality said that there were currently 597 active cases in the locality. The collection of swab/nasal samples has been managed through the Gokarna Primary Hospital on Monday and Thursday and the samples are sent to the Teku-based Shahid Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Diseases Hospital for lab test.

Similarly, the Narayantar-based Shankharapur Hospital has been collecting the samples for test.
