Martyrs Shrestha and Chand commemorated

Martyrs Ganga Lal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand have been commemorated by offering bouquets on their statues.

As a part of the week-long program that started on January 24, the martyrs have been commemorated by offering bouquet of flowers at the statues of the martyrs erected at Shobha Bhagwati on the banks of the river Bishnumati. Martyr's Day is celebrated in the presence of a limited number of people due to the ongoing pandemic.

Bidya Sundar Shakya, Chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Coordinator of the Main Ceremony Committee, Deputy Chief Hari Prabha Khadgi, Chief Administrative Officer Loknath Poudyal, Spokesperson and Chairman of Ward No. 15 Ishwar Man Dangol and others laid wreaths at the program.

Dasharath Chand and Gangalal Shrestha were sentenced to death in the Shobha Bhagwati area on the banks of the river Bishnumati on January 28, 1941 for working against the cruel Rana regime and inciting the people for democracy. Instead of being persuaded by the love of their lives, they were ready to get shot for democracy. They were first shot below the knee. Even so, they were not convinced and were shot dead.

This year, on the first day of the matyr's week, the place where Shukraraj Shastri was executed, at Teku, and on the second day, at the place where the Dharmabhakta Mathema was executed, wreaths were laid at the statue. At the place where Shrestha and Chand were sentenced to death, there are pillars, half-length statues and full-length statues.

On the last day of Martyrs' week, a memorial program will be held at 9 am on Sunday at Martyrs' Memorial, Lainchaur. Silence will be observed in the memory of the known and unknown martyrs in the presence of a limited number of high profile personalities including the Prime Minister.
