Prohibitory order likely to be extended in Kathmandu valley

The prohibitory order that was imposed in Kathmandu valley to curb the spread of the second wave of the coronavirus is likely to be extended again. The order that was extended for the second time in the valley will come to an end on midnight of May 27. However, there are high chances that it will be extended.

There is a need to extend the prohibitory order in Kathmandu because the number of COVID-19 infections has not declined as expected, according to Kali Prasad Parajuli, Chief District Officer of Kathmandu. A meeting of the chief district officers of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur, which has been scheduled for this afternoon, will take a decision on whether or not to extend the prohibitory order.

Besides the prohibitory order the meeting will also hold discussions on Ordinance on COVID-19 Crisis Management, 2021 that was issued by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari on May 20. Discussions will also be held on the health safety protocols that have been issued and their implementation and regarding management of oxygen for hospitals.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had earlier instructed the chief district officers of Kathmandu valley to impose the prohibitory order in a stricter manner. As per the Home Ministry, prohibitory orders have been imposed in 75 districts across the country.
