The meeting of the chief district officers (CDOs) of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur held a meeting today to hold discussions regarding the prohibitory order that has been imposed to curb the spread of the second wave of the coronavirus in the country.
The chief district officers have come to a conclusion that the prohibitory needs to be extended for another week. Earlier today, Chief District Officer of Lalitpur, Dhundi Prasad Niraula, had informed there are plans to further extend the prohibitory order as a precaution because of the detection of the more infectious Delta plus variant of the coronavirus. Moreover, he added that COVID-19 infections had not subsided as expected.
CDO Niraula had also said there are plans to extend the prohibitory order by one week. However, he had mentioned there had been no decision taken on whether or not to allow public transportation to open.
The meeting today has decided to extend the prohibitory order in the valley but the chief district officers have agreed to relax some more provisions in the next prohibitory order. The current prohibitory order will end at midnight on Monday.
Meanwhile, there are plans to allow public transportation to resume operations albeit on an odd-even vehicle registration number basis like what is being allowed for private vehicles at the moment. However, there has been no decision made in this regard.
The government has allowed the domestic aviation sector to resume operations from July 1. Hence there is tremendous pressure on the administration to also allow the operation of public transportation.
