Two new skybridges to be constructed

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has started construction of skybridges at Chabahil Chowk and Mitra Park. Chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Bidya Sundar Shakya laid the foundation stone of two bridges today. Chief Shakya laid the foundation stone at Chabahil Chowk and Mitra Park.

Laying the foundation stone of two bridges of 33 meters length and 2 meters width at Chabahil Chowk and 16 meters length and 2 meters width at Mitra Park, Chief Shakya informed that the campaign for construction of sky bridges in crowded and accident-prone areas is moving forward.

"There are a lot of problems of traffic jams in Kathmandu Valley, 'he said. After the construction of that bridge, now there is a demand for another bridge at Chakrapath road, so the corporation has laid the foundation stone of this bridge today. 

He also laid the foundation stone of another bridge at Mitra Park today. Ram Thapa, chief of the physical infrastructure department of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, informed that the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has launched a campaign for the construction of the sky bridge in coordination with the Road Department for transport management.

He said that so far three such structures have been constructed and one is in the final stage. He also informed that there are plans to build three more bridges this year.

"We are planning to build more bridges in more crowded places and footpaths," he said.

Engineer Prem Kumar Shrestha of Kathmandu Metropolitan City said that similar bridges have been constructed at Maitighar Chowk, Chabahil Chowk and Dallu so far.
