At a closed event held at Trisara, Lazimpat, Abhaya and the Steam Injuns debuted their new single "Laijau Malai". The launch event saw Abhaya take to the stage at Trisara, serenading the audience with her ever-mellifluous vocals as she rolled through her favorite songs before finally bringing forth her new song.
Through the course of the performance it was made evidently clear why for 19 years Abhaya Subba and her Steam Injuns enraptured an entire nation into loving their songs thus making them a household name. Starting off with "Suna Suna" the band ever-charismatic went through their biggest hits from "Timro Lagi" to "Hawa Huri" never once failing to draw heaps of applause and hoots from the crowd.
The event was attended by the likes of Malvika Subba, Asmi Shrestha, Mira Rai and many of Nepal's most recognizable faces drew to an end with the music video launch of the new single featuring former Miss Nepal Asmi Shrestha.
In between her sets during her performance Subba went on to speak of the lockdown, depression, her song in her father's memory, ageing and of feeling desolate at times and how the lockdown made her examine herself and who she was in the industry.
She mentions how despite a 19 year music career she feared people weren't listening, how maybe they disliked her music and how she's been coping with ageing and the lockdown.
Legendary artists and their music persist time and permeate through generations, and if one thing were clear from last nights performance and the bands new song, is that Abhaya Subba and the Steam Injuns are true legends of the music industry whose music shall live on and always find a niche in every Nepali heart that listens.
