Whether it is for spiritual purposes or merely just as pretty aesthetics, crystals and candles have definitely gained a lot of popularity amongst the Nepali youth. This sudden rise in their demand can be seen as an impact of western influence. Many also believe it to be a millennial trend.
People were aware of what crystals were since the very beginning. However, most individuals thought of it to be merely pretty and shiny stones. Many people still collect crystals for aesthetics and beauty. They look beautiful when worn as jewelry and can be a fashion statement, too. However, the number of people learning about its benefits is increasing rapidly as well. The internet has played a huge role in highlighting spiritualism, including benefits and importance of crystals amongst the Nepali youth. Learning about it is extremely easy due to which more people are getting into it everyday.
22-year-old Sanil Tuladhar has always been a spiritual person. Since crystals are a big part of spiritualism, he became curious about them. “My social media slowly began to fill up with contents related to crystals,” he says. With more research, he realized that crystals were far more than just shiny stones and began collecting them one at a time. “I believe that I can harmonize and connect with crystals. They help me heal and release my energy,” he says. Tuladhar believes he sleeps better, is able to move forward and has a higher intuition after using crystals.
Crystals play a huge role in the world of spiritualism; however, not all people use it for the same purpose. 22-year-old Aayush Mishra has been wearing crystals as jewelry for many years. Though he is not much into spirituality, he believes that the emerald ring helps him with anger and discomfort issues while the opal attracts positivity. “I did not believe in it earlier, but I cannot deny the changes I have felt in myself,” he says.
“I think the popularity of crystals is yet to reach its peak,” says Shidkia Acharya, owner of Zestasia, a decorative candles and crystals store. Acharya, who gets her crystals from around the world believes that crystals have the ability to attract positive energy, good mental and physical vibes. She further suggests researching properly before collecting and using crystals.
Likewise, candles are also rapidly gaining popularity at present. Similar to crystals, candles are also used for different purposes, mainly therapeutic, spiritual, and health. It is also gaining a lot of attraction as a form of gifts amongst friends and families. “Many consider candles as a classy and elegant decorative piece that also creates a soothing aura,” says Shristi Konda, owner of Aroma Nepal 11. “Scented candles also have tons of therapeutic benefits. Lavender, for example, is scientifically proven to have calming benefits and helps to deal with anxiety and sleep deprivation,” she adds.
Rajeesha Shakya recently bought scented candles for her mother. “My mother prefers to light scented candles while meditating,” she says. Shakya’s mother has sinus problems which she feels might get better by using scented candles. “The one she uses currently smells minty and fresh. Her sinus problems seem to be getting better after using it,” she adds.
Not only are candles multipurpose and pleasant to both see and smell, the process of selecting the perfect candle is very exciting, too. Based on the variety of shapes and fragrance that are available in the market, choosing one for you or as a gift can be fun. “I think it’s fun to choose the candle's fragrance. You can have a theme and customize your candles accordingly. I feel like candles are very aesthetically pleasing to the senses. Hence, it’s gaining popularity these days,” says Acharya.
Both Acharya and Konda’s candles are one of a kind. While most of their customers are females of all ages, according to their preferences, some opt for Acharya’s candles which focus on body positivity while some opt for Konda’s candles which come in reusable jars and are spill proof. “Our best seller is definitely Ocean breeze which is a cooling, minty scented candle along with lavender which is more on the soothing side”, says Konda.
