First ever Karnali Int Film Festival to be held in Surkhet

Karnali International Film Festival-2080 BS would be organized for the first time at Birendranagar of Surkhet district from September 21 to 23 this year.

The Festival aims to promote Karnali's narratives, lifestyles, costumes, arts, cultures, traditions, literature, and languages among others at national and international levels, it was shared in a press meeting here today.

The Festival will be organized by Red Cherry Media Pvt Ltd in association with the Film Development Board. The logo of the Festival was unveiled at the event.

Festival Director Chandra Bahadur Chand shared that the Festival is expected to propagate local art and culture. "We aim to introduce Karnali Province and market the province as a suitable film shooting spot," he said, adding that they were organizing the Festival gauging the need to promote tourism through films.

Speaking in the press meeting, parliamentarian Gyanendra Shahi pledged to raise their voice in the parliament to introduce a program that promotes Karnali province as a suitable film shooting spot.

"Our unique native stories are finding space in the screen lately. There will be my utmost support and collaboration to bring Karnali's stories to the screen," he vowed.

He shared that discussions were held with the concerned agencies including the Minister for Finance to include Nepali films in the upcoming provincial government's budget.

Present in the press meet were former State Minister Kunti Kumari Shah, actor Shiva Shrestha and comedian Himesh Panta among others.
