Hair fall is one of the most common problems people face all over the world. And we get stuck in the loop of trying to find remedies to control hair loss.

There are many reasons that can cause hair loss such as heredity, age, hormonal imbalances, stress, hairstyling products and so on.

Hair loss is a process that may differ from person to person. For some it can be gradual, while some may face sudden losses of clumps of hair with bald patches developing at places. Women may lose their hair during pregnancy, menopause, childbirth or due to hormonal changes and men can lose their hair due to heredity reasons or ageing.

Remember, everyone sheds hair every day and it is very normal but you should consult a doctor if the hair fall is persistent.

Here are some tips to control hair fall.

Protein filled diet

One of the reasons for hair loss is due to lack of essential nutrition and low protein. So a protein filled diet such as lean meat, fish and soy can help in curbing hair loss.

Regular wash

Regular hair wash helps keep the scalp clean and healthy which can prevent hair loss. But there are many who are worried that the hair will be left dry and can cause breakage. However, the secret is to use mild shampoo.

Washing hair regularly lowers the risk of infections and dandruff.

Massaging the scalp with oil

Well, time and again our mothers have told us to oil our hair and massage our scalp. Keeping your hair and scalp healthy can help prevent hair fall. It also improves hair growth.

Using oil such as coconut and olive can protect your hair. Coconut and olive oil helps bind protein in the hair and protects from dryness and breakage.

Applying oil and massaging the scalp can help promote better blood flow on the head which also helps with regrowth. Let it sit for 30 minutes before washing the oil off.

Avoid brushing wet hair

Hair is at its weakest state while it is wet. So try avoiding combing wet hair as it can increase the chances of hair loss. But if you have to comb your hair, try using a comb with wide-tooth, or just use your hand to loosen the tangles.

Constant heating and blow drying

All the ladies know about styling their hair. But the constant heating and blowing procedures can weaken the hair’s protein leading to dryness and weakness. This can cause hair loss and breakage.

So try avoiding curling or straightening your hair too often. Also using too much of any hair product can prove harmful to the hair in the long term.

Drink water and stay hydrated

The health of your hair also depends on the amount of water you drink daily. So drinking at least four to eight cups a day helps you keep hydrated and also helps with the growth of your hair.

If you are experiencing hair loss then avoiding alcohol also helps. Drinking alcohol affects hair growth, so decreasing or eliminating the intake will help.

It is normal to lose a certain amount of hair every day as even hair goes through a cycle of growing, resting and shedding. But keeping it healthy helps reduce hair loss. There are times stress or lack of physical activities can cause hair fall. So keeping yourself healthy physically and mentally can help keep your hair healthy as well.
