Greek yogurt is a fermented dairy item which is much thicker and tangier than regular yogurt. And its nutritional profile is also very different from that of regular yogurt.
Surya Kari first tasted Greek yogurt in the USA and instantly fell in love with it. In 2017, he learnt that his friends shared a common love for it. And as they realized that Nepalese market lacks a dairy product which is as healthy as it is delicious, the trio came up with the idea to run Nepal’s first Greek yogurt.
As they always wanted to do something in the agriculture sector in Nepal, they began the journey of the creation of Delish Greek Yogurt.
“Nepalese dairy industry has not evolved and that is a big problem”, says Karki. “We don’t want to revolutionize the agriculture industry, we want to make it better”, he adds.
Produced by Delish Dairies Pvt. Ltd, Delish Greek Yogurt is the first Nepal-made Greek yogurt. It is also the first dairy company to run an app, Delish Dairies. As the customers have the option to use the app to place their order, Karki and his partners look forward to maintaining a close relationship with them.
While the digital world is flourishing, technology revolution has not made its place in the Nepalese dairy industry.
Karki believes through the app they can help Nepalese dairy industry take a new step.
“It has not been done before as people are comfortable with how things are but development takes place when one dares to take uncomfortable steps. So it is a small step to push the industry in the digital world,'' he says.
The app not only lets customers place their orders, but the consumers can track their orders as everything from production to dispatch is automated.
They can also give their feedback, recommendations and suggestions about Delish.
“Social media is a good platform, but everything is advancing now. And we don't want social media to be the only platform to be our entryway to the people who support us”, says Karki.
The franchise also plans on introducing new flavors in the market every two months according to the consumers’ choice. And the app plays a role here too as people can tell the creators directly what product they want next.
“The company is all about its people. We want our supporters to decide what they like and do not. For a company to do good, consumers should always be heard” explains Karki.
Karki believes that it is important for businesses to understand that the current generation is digital savvy, and it is important to have some presence in the digital world.
“If a company does not have strategies of going digital, your customers will forget about you sooner or later’, he says.
Karki emphasizes how Nepalese companies can do a lot better digitally.
“It has become very important for the physical space to be digitized so that it can act as a bridge to connect the physical space to the digital.”
