As we adjust to the new environment spending most of our time confined at home most of us are looking at things that we could do to keep ourselves occupied. If we already have a hobby that we are interested in then there is no problem as such but for those who do not have one it is quite a hassle trying out new things that could interest us.
Selecting a hobby that interests us is not as easy as it sounds. What we noticed in the previous lockdown was that most people got hooked into making ‘dalgona coffee’ or cooking different dishes. It is easy to go along with the prevailing trend but what we should be more careful about is whether that particular activity really interests us.
Most of us always say that it is just a hobby not realising that it could have a huge impact on our lives. Somewhere along the path to adulthood we stopped doing what we love to do. Hobbies are an important aspect of our daily life when we are growing up. And during childhood we loved our hobbies whether it was music, dancing or reading or anything for that matter.
What we would like to advise you is not to fall for the trend and develop one that best suits you while staying at home. Here are a few tips to get going.
Reminisce your childhood interest
Childhood is the phase which is like a treasure box. There are things we did that we loved when we were just a child and we did not have any inhibition about it. So, open that treasure trove and try to recollect the activities that you enjoyed doing.
Did you enjoy reading? Or did you like to paint or write or sew? Take a step back into your past and look for what you used to enjoy as a child. The nostalgic memory will help you guide through the hobbies that you want to do as an adult.
Transform your interest into hobby
Interest is a feeling or will to do or learn something whereas hobby is done in an act form.
We all have certain interests but fail to put them into action. There are many things we already enjoy which can be turned into a hobby. For instance, if you love watching cooking shows or reading books you can start making your own recipes and write or journalise whatever you feel like.
You are one step closer in turning your interest to a hobby because you are already doing the things that you enjoy which makes it easier.
Try and stick to the plan
The most important thing while developing a hobby is the will to try and stick to the plan.
We often compare our abilities to others and in this competitive world it is okay to get lost in the crowd. But that doesn't mean you should stop trying new things. If you really want to find your hobby, be spontaneous in your work as not everything you try is going to be rolled up. Think of anything you find interesting, if one doesn't work go for another interest.
Finding the right hobby might be a continuous quest but trust the process and delve into it wholeheartedly. When you find a hobby that fits right it will open the door to new experiences.
