India reports 7,000 COVID-19 infections, 247 deaths

Nearly 7,000 more have been infected with coronavirus in India. Government officials say another 247 people died of COVID-19 in the same period. According to the Union Ministry of Health, 3,377 of the newly infected people are from the state of Kerala alone. In the last 24 hours, 28 people have died in the state due to coronavirus.

At present, the number of infected people in India is 87,562. "Currently, the number of infected people is only 0.25 percent of the total number of infected people," the ministry said. This is the lowest number since March 2020, officials said.

Similarly, the number of those cured has reached 98.38 percent, according to the ministry. This is the highest number since March 2020, officials said. In the last 24 hours, 8,168 people have been infected with the coronavirus. Till now, the total number of those who have been free from infection is 34.146 million.

The number of actively infected people is decreasing as the number of cured people is more than the number of newly infected people.
