Police in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) said on Thursday that two people were injured overnight in a public place shooting.
At about 2:20 a.m. local time (0420 GMT) on Thursday, emergency services were called to Cassia Crescent in Gateshead, a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie, after receiving reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, police officers found a 42-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman sustaining gunshot wounds.
They were treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to a hospital in stable conditions.
A crime scene has been established, with an investigation also underway into all circumstances of the incident.
The authority urged members of the public to provide any information or video footage related to the shooting.
So far in September this year, the NSW Police Force has responded to at least three shootings occurring across the state, including Thursday's case in Lake Macquarie. The incidents caused four injuries in total.
