Birendra Army Hospital to provide free dialysis treatment to Kathmandu residents

The Birendra Army Hospital in Chhauni has started providing free haemodialysis service to patients of Kathmandu Metropolitan City suffering from renal problems. The free service was jointly inaugurated by Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan Bidhya Sundar Shakya and Chief of Army Staff General Purna Chandra Thapa.

The free haemodialysis treatment is being provided through a joint collaboration whereby Kathmandu Metropolitan will provide financial resources and the hospital will provide the other medical resources.

Mayor Shakya mentioned that the free service had been started as per the metropolitan’s target to provide the best medical services possible to people residing in the capital. He also said that the ‘Healthy Kidney, Healthy Kathmandu’ programme had already been initiated in all 32 wards of the city so as to prevent people from contracting renal diseases and also to stop further deterioration in the health condition of people who are already suffering from renal diseases.

The metropolitan has provided Rs 30 million to Birendra Army Hospital to set up the necessary medical infrastructure for treatment of patients with renal diseases.
