MoHP reports 849 new COVID cases, 12 deaths on Wednesday

Nationwide COVID tally hits 799615; death toll reaches 11192

The COVID-19 variant found in India has been reported in Memphis, United States.

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Wednesday confirmed the detection of 849 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 799,615. Additionally, 194 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the ministry on October 6 recorded 12 deaths. As of Wednesday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 11,192. Presently, there are 16,194 active cases in Nepal.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 440 new cases. Kathmandu logged 344 cases, Lalitpur logged 61 cases and Bhaktapur logged 35 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 891 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Wednesday, a total of 772,229 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 96.6 percent while the fatality rate is 1.4 percent.

Earlier, the MoHP Tuesday had reported 762 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 798,766.

As of Wednesday, a total of 4,256,803 people have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 16,194 people staying in isolation while 467 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

Meanwhile, 2, 801,790 people have been administered the first dose of Covishield vaccines and 1,548,247 have been vaccinated with the booster dose. Likewise, 5,160,857 people have been vaccinated with the first dose of the Vero Cell vaccine while 3,33,6417 others have received the second dose as of October 6, 2021, the Ministry's data showed. Similarly, a total of 1,534,816 persons — 199,665 in Province 362,298 in Province 2; 380,969 in Bagmati Province; 122,278  in Gandaki Province; 254,074 in Lumbini Province, 76,279 in Karnali Province, and 139,253 in Sudurpaschim Province — have been vaccinated with single-shot Janssen vaccines.

More than 235.92 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 5,022,000 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in 2019-December, COVID-19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters. It has been reported that COVID-19 infections are still rising in 39 countries where The United States is the new hotspot of COVID-19 facing a daily surge of rapid infections.
