The Omicron variant of coronavirus has been found in Nepal. The Ministry of Health and Population held a press conference here today in the presence of Health Minister Virodh Khatiwada.
A foreigner along with a Nepali citizen who came in contact with him have been confirmed to have Omicron variant. According to Dr Roshan Pokharel, Secretary of the Ministry of Health, the 66 people who came to Nepal with him were tested and found to be infected.
Health Secretary Dr Pokharel urged the people not to form huge crowds and to adopt health measures as the Omicron virus is found. Earlier, the Omicron variant was seen in India.
World Health Organisation designated Omicron as “a variant of concern” on November 26. Till now the new variant has been detected in around 50 countries throughout the world including in India and Hong Kong.
