Karnali Province Chief Tilak Pariyar has said caste-based/racial discrimination is a social and moral crime and an assault on human dignity.
In a message of best wishes on the occasion of the 58th International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination today, the Province Chief reminded that the Constitution and laws in Nepal have prohibited all sorts of caste-based discrimination, exclusions, deprivations and violence. He said caste-based discrimination and untouchability are not acceptable to the society. However, traditional mindset, economic inequalities and lack of proper awareness provide a ground for the existence of de facto caste-based discriminations and offences, according to him.
Underlining the need of a massive cultural transformation to build a just, civilised, cultured, and equitable society by ending such discriminations, the Province Chief has called one and all to contribute for the elimination of caste-based discrimination and untouchability.
He hoped the Day inspired all of us to cultivate and promote the feelings of mutual cooperation, bonding and unity among all castes and communities and to strengthen national unity.
