Commitment of women people's representatives to stop gender-based violence

Women people's representatives have expressed their commitment to stop gender-based violence in society. The women people's representatives of Palpa Tansen Municipality have decided to identify and eliminate the causes of the increase in gender-based violence. Violence is on the rise in rural areas due to alcohol and drug abuse.

According to the women representatives, the district administration office in Palpa has organized an interaction program on 'Sexual Violence and Drug Control' in Tansen. They have said that they will be active against violence in 14 wards of the city.

The District Administration Office, Palpa has organized a discussion between the newly elected women people's representatives and the heads and representatives of the social branches of all the 10 municipalities of Palpa for the control and prevention of violence against women and gender-based violence.

Chief District Officer Jagannath Pant said that women people's representatives should be vigilant in the production, sale, and distribution of domestic liquor that is hidden in villages and cities due to violence against women caused by consumption of alcohol and liquor.

"Gender-based violence is on the rise in the society. The violence against women will be reduced by 90 percent if domestic alcohol production, trafficking and smuggling activities are controlled," he said. Ninety percent of women and 10 percent of men are victims of sexual violence. Assistant Chief District Officer Bhaktisara Rana said that women should do chores from housework to office work, from morning to evening.
