Stakeholders have expressed concern over the negative impact of foreign employment on the society. At a program held at Kawasoti in Nawalparasi (East of Bardaghat-Sustapur) on Friday, they said that foreign employment was having a negative social impact even though it brought in remittances, skills and experience.

Rituram Soti, district coordinator of the Safe Immigration Project, said that foreign employment has caused problems such as separation from family and children, lack of care for children and elderly members, family mismatch, disintegration, divorce, social stigma, and mental stress. Stating that there are many instances of debt, fraud, imprisonment, exploitation, homelessness, mutilation and even death due to foreign employment, Soti said that efforts should be made to reduce it. Presenting a report on the social problems created due to foreign employment at a program organized by the Himalayan Community Development Forum (HICODEF), Soti said that social distortion is increasing due to foreign employment.

Similarly, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Nawalpur, Chesram Ale said that foreign employment has strengthened the economic condition but at a cost of social issues and distortion. He said that everyone in the society should focus on reducing such incidents. Stating that the skills, experience and remittances gained from foreign employment should be utilized properly, Ale said that education is the guide for a prosperous society and everyone should be given correct information about foreign issues.

Chief Administrative Officer of Kawasoti Municipality Ramesh Gharti said that the level of awareness is increasing now. Krishna Prasad Ghimire, executive director of the Himalayan Community Development Forum (HICODEF), said that the society was undergoing gradual change. Facilitating the program, Hicodef's consultant Ranjana Lamsal requested to be contacted for advice and information on foreign employment.

International Immigration Day is being observed on December 18, with the slogan 'Conscious, Skillful and Safe Employment, Base of Dignified Labor Employment'.

Meanwhile, the Migrant Workers Rights Protection Forum Nawalpur has distributed educational materials. Educational materials have been distributed to the children of the workers who are facing problems during their foreign employment. Educational materials have been distributed to help the children of families who have lost their lives and lost contact during foreign employment, said Yuvlal Tiwari, district chairman of the forum.

On the eve of International Migration Day, educational materials including clothes, bags, copies and pens were distributed to 10 people at a program organized in Kawasoti on Friday. The Migrant Workers' Rights Protection Forum has earlier provided scholarships to students under a '1 rupee' campaign.
