Incidents of human trafficking are taking place through the border checkpoint of Rupandehi district.
Maiti Nepal data shows that human traffickers have been trafficking Nepali women and children to India and third countries giving way to different temptations.
Rupandehi Chapter of Maiti Nepal said the incidents of human trafficking have continued unabated. As many as 56 women and children were rescued from Belhiya border area from mid-July to mid-August in the current fiscal year 2078/79 BS. Human trafficking has not stopped yet, according to the data of the last three years. In the fiscal year 2075/76 BS, a total of 253 victims were rescued from Nepal-India border entry point at Belhiya while they were being trafficked to India.
According to Maiti Nepal Rupandehi chapter, 50 trafficked girls and women were rescued from different cities of India.
Likewise, in the fiscal year 2076/77 BS, a total of 242 trafficked women and girls were rescued from Belhiya while 14 victims were rescued from different cities of India.
Similarly, in the fiscal year 2077/78 BS, a total of 151 women and girls were rescued while being trafficked to India. Maiti Nepal Chapter Chief Maya Chhetri shared that eight of them were rescued and brought back to Nepal from different Indian cities.
Human traffickers are said to be trafficking Nepali girls and women to India and Gulf countries while children are forced to labour in circus shows.
Police informed that the human traffickers make false promises of employment and opportunity to traffick women and adolescents to India through different checkpoints of Nepal.
Human traffickers are found to have trafficked Nepali women and children from different districts of the country — mainly from Sindhupalchowk, Kavrepalanchok, and Sindhuli.
