In Kathmandu, it has been revealed that a man has registered an industry in the name of his wife and sells it by making it inedible (low-quality honey). The man has been feeding inedible honey for the past seven years. According to the Metropolitan Crime Branch, he used to send the honey, especially to hotel restaurants.
Naresh Shrestha, 38, of Indravati Gaonpalika-6, Sindhupalchowk, has been arrested on a charge of producing and selling low-quality honey by adulteration.
A team from the Metropolitan Crime Branch arrested him on the basis of special information while he was making low quality honey. He was accompanied by 600 kg of poor quality honey, 6,500 kg of raw honey used, 500 kg of glucose, 100 kg of sugar, one-by-one weighing machine, leveling machine, sealing machine, petrize machine, storage machine, spurs honey level and one. Thousands of jars have been recovered.
He has been found distributing wholesale and retail in hotels and restaurants in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Pokhara. The raw material used for making honey was procured from Dang, Nawalparasi and Chitwan. It has been found that low quality honey is sold at Rs. 650 per kg. A test conducted by the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control found that the honey did not meet the minimum standards and was not even edible. He was handed over to the metropolitan police for further action, the department said in a statement.
