A socket bomb found in the Burkesalla forest of Sisne Gaonpalika-2 Pwang of Rukum (East) has been defused by the army. The socket bomb, which was found hidden inside a black plastic drum, was defused by the army on Friday afternoon. A team of Nepal Army and Nepal Police defused two socket bombs outside the drum and an estimated eight inside the drum, said Ward Chairman Jeevan KC. Locals who had gone to the forest to graze goats on Thursday afternoon had informed the ward office after seeing the suspicious object. Wadale had informed the Area Police Office, Pwang. A Nepal Army and Nepal Police team from the district defused the bomb this morning.
According to Ward Chairman KC, the socket bomb may have been dropped by the then CPN-Maoist fighters during the ten-year armed people's war. A team of 11 led by fighter Babulal GC defused the bomb, police said. While deactivating, the bomb exploded loudly. All bombs were defused in two stages.
