The District Traffic Police Office Khotang has collected Rs. 39.52 million in a period of nine months. The revenue has been collected by taking action against the drivers of the vehicles violating the traffic rules.
The traffic police team deployed at different places fined drivers of 5,401 vehicles from last July to mid-April. According to Chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Dal Bahadur Khatri, Rs. 263,000 in July, Rs. 444,000 in August, Rs. 407,000 in September, Rs. 653,000 in October, Rs. 710,000 in November, Rs. 378,000 was collected. Similarly, Rs. 379,000 was collected in January, and Rs. 363,000 in February.
According to the traffic police, action has been taken against the drivers who did not have driver's license, did not carry the required documents, consumed alcohol, speeding and loading more than their capacity, and did not wear helmets, seatbelts and driver's uniforms.
According to the District Traffic Police Office, 19 road accidents have taken place in the district in the last nine months. Five people were killed and 23 others were injured in different road accidents. Khatri said that most of the vehicles were involved in accidents due to illegal driving.
