Nepal has received 45,000 metric tonnes of urea that had been purchased from Bangladesh. The fertilisers that had been purchased based on government-government (G2G) agreement had arrived at the provincial offices of Agriculture Inputs Company Ltd (AICL) in Birgunj, Biratnagar and Bhairahawa.
Based on the G2G agreement, Bangladesh has pledged to provide 50,000 metric tonnes of urea to Nepal. The process to bring the remaining quantity of fertilisers has already been started, informed Gorakhnath KC, Manager of the provincial office of AICL in Birgunj.
KC said besides the 50,000 metric tonnes of urea for which an agreement has already been signed Nepal will receive an additional 2,000 metric tonnes of urea. He mentioned that this year the country will not face any shortage of fertilisers during the paddy plantation season. KC also mentioned that Nepal should have received all the fertilisers by now as per the agreement but delivery has been delayed due to the crisis created by the coronavirus pandemic.
The remaining 5,000 and additional 2,000 metric tonnes of urea will arrive at the provincial offices of Agriculture Inputs Company Ltd in Birgunj, Biratnagar and Bhairahawa within a week, as per the company.
