The construction of a suspension bridge connecting Bihibare of Mai Municipality-6 and Ghante of Ward 1 in the southern region of Ilam has been completed. The construction of an 820-meter long suspension bridge has been completed. It is said to be the second-longest suspension bridge built in Nepal.

The bridge will be handed over to the municipality in a few days after construction. After the construction of the suspension bridge, it has become easier to cross the Mai rive. Earlier, a 1,452-meter long bridge connecting Dodhara and Chandni of Mahakali was built.

Engineer Upendra Devkota of the Sustainability Bridge Division of the Local Infrastructure Department informed that a 1,572-meter long suspension bridge will be constructed at Triveni Susta. A similar bridge has been designed at Kamalamai in Sindhuli. The construction of the bridge has been completed at a cost of Rs. 82 million by the Department of Local Infrastructure under the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration.

Construction company Thani Himashikhar JV completed the construction of the bridge six months before the construction period, said Devkota. Built with seven pillars, the suspension bridge has four towers. After the construction of the bridge over the Mai River, it has become easy for the residents of Deumai Municipality to move around from the hour of Mai-1 to Jitpur.

Local Prem Bahadur Karki said that they helped to take the sick to the hospital and help the students to go to school. According to him, the bridge has made it easier for the locals to reach the Ilam headquarters. Last year, only three students were swept away by a river when there was no bridge in the area.
