"Farmers have been facing problems due to non-availability of fair prices for commercially produced agricultural products in the village. We are confident that this problem will be resolved after the construction of cold storage is completed," he said, "The aim is to distribute the potato, ginger, and other commodities produced in the village by arranging storage." Farmers who have been facing problems due to lack of cold storage are happy after its construction started.
Local Vishnubhakta Sigdel said that it would help the farmers who could not get a fair price due to the lack of cold storage. Byas Municipality has also started construction of cold storage. Ward Chairman Nir Bahadur Khadka informed that cold storage is being constructed in Byas Municipality-11 at a cost of Rs. 30 million. Byas Municipality has been distributing potato seeds to farmers as a grant to make the city self-sufficient in potatoes. Khadka said that potatoes can be stored and sold after the construction of cold storage.
The municipality of Shuklagandaki has been constructing cold storage since last April. The construction work of cold storage in Shuklagandaki Municipality-8 Sangam Tol has been expedited. Ward Chairman Krishna Prasad Regmi informed that the construction work of the cold storage has been started with the conditional budget grant of the federal government and the budget of the municipality.
Ward Chairman Regmi said that the construction of cold storage has been started to make arrangements for keeping the agricultural products produced by the farmers in the cold storage and selling them at any time. According to him, the federal government has provided a conditional grant budget of Rs. 10 million for the construction of cold storage, while the municipality has invested Rs. 20 million. Construction work has been started from the bidding process with a total budget of Rs. 30 million.
The cold storage is being constructed on the public land protected by the creative women's society in Lali for a long time. The need for cold storage was created as there was a problem of not raising the price of labor when agricultural products produced in the urban area were sold cheaply. "Potato farming is practiced commercially in this ward, but it was difficult to get a fair price for the potatoes produced by the farmers," he said.
The work of cold storage will be completed within the current Fiscal Year. He said that arrangements will be made to store potatoes, ginger, and other commodities produced in the city this year. The ward office has been making arrangements to deliver the potatoes produced by the farmers to the cold storage. A budget of Rs. 200,000 has been allocated this year for the transportation of potatoes to the cold storage.
"Farmers have been assisted in transporting potatoes to the cold storage to get a fair price, but after the construction of this cold storage, the farmers will also feel comfortable," said Regmi. To make the farmers self-reliant, potato seeds were distributed in this ward. Shuklagandaki, which is running the 'One Ward One Product' program, has given priority to potato production in Ward No. 8.
To support the program, the federal government had sent a budget of Rs. Farmers who are facing problems due to lack of cold storage are happy after the construction of cold storage has started. Farmer Manju Shrestha complained that he could not get a fair price due to a lack of cold storage.
