97 new cases of coronavirus reported on Friday

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Friday reported 97 new cases of coronavirus infection in Nepal. The addition of new cases has taken the country's COVID-19 tally to 273,263.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have reported 34 new cases of coronavirus infection — 23 in Kathmandu, five in Lalitpur and six in Bhaktapur — in the last 24 hours. Of the newly infected in the valley, 14 are females and 20 others are males.

As many as 114 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. With this, a total of 269,619 persons infected with coronavirus in the country have recovered as of Friday. At present, the recovery rate stands at 98.7 per cent as per the data released by the MoHP.

Likewise, the death toll from COVID-19 has reached 2,061 with three more deaths from the disease in the past 24 hours. Presently, there are 1,583 active cases in Nepal.

Meanwhile, 2,134,261 people have undergone polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test as of Friday.

Likewise, 1,583 people have been staying in isolation while 68 others in quarantine, the MoHP reported.

Earlier, the MoHP on Thursday had reported 96 new cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the COVID-19 tally to 273,166.

More than 110.37 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 2,546,708 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December, a Reuters tally showed as of 3:54 pm on February 19.

The World Health Organisation referred to it as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
