The consumption of alcohol has been assumed as the cause of the increasing number of crimes in Doti district, police have claimed.

Police Inspector Rabindra Chand said 25 cases out of 139 cases registered in total were linked to alcohol abuse in the fiscal year 2077/078 in the district.

According to police, the criminal cases were reported from the district headquarters and settlements around the highways.

Similarly, 38 cases relating to domestic violence, violence against women and gender-based violence were registered. At least 18 cases related to alcohol consumption have been filed in the past month, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Indra Bahadur Malla said.

"Alcohol intake is the main cause in most of the cases registered here. The situation has compelled to impose a ban on alcohol in Doti district," he shared.

Another Inspector Kantiraj Joshi said the locals have lodged an application demanding the alcohol sale and distribution be banned in the district.

The Doti District Police Office (DPO) said so far more than 24 persons have died in brawls owing to inebriation.

Chief of the DPO, Superintendent of Police (SP) Dan Bahadur Malla, said that they were working to impose a ban on alcohol sales, adding, "However, we have not succeeded in it."
