The Banke Construction Entrepreneurs Association has declared a 'construction holiday' in the district. Entrepreneurs have halted construction work saying that prices of construction materials have gone up.
Chairman of the Banke Construction Entrepreneurs' Association, Tek Bahadur Khadka, informed that the work of 500 government construction projects worth Rs. He mentioned that the price of construction materials is higher now than when the contract was signed.
"We are not in a position to work on the previous contract, so we have been forced to declare a construction holiday," said Chairman Khadka. Prices of diesel rose by 25 per cent, bricks by 33 per cent and iron by 24 per cent.
Vice-president of the association Suresh Chand said that some businessmen were facing problems as they could not buy the goods. The association has demanded to adjust the rate fixed for construction materials in the district, to bring guidelines to relieve the price rise, and to extend the construction completion period. Some entrepreneurs have complained that they have not received raw materials for their work. Some have not even received their last payment.
