Cardamom farmers optimistic due to rainfall

Farmers in Taplejung are happy after continuous rain and snowfall. The farmers who are most involved in cardamom cultivation are happy.

The farmers are happy after the rains while irrigating cardamom, the main cash crop of the district. Farmers in areas where there is not enough water for irrigation have received great relief due to snow and rain. According to farmers, cardamom irrigation is now better due to rain than the ground water.

There has been snowfall in the district after rain on Friday and Saturday. Birkha Bahadur Limbu of Lelep in Faktanglung Village Municipality-6 says that he felt great relief due to rain when cardamom needed irrigation. Limbu said that he was relieved as it was raining during the time of cardamom flowering and new shoots. After December, farmers irrigate their cardamom fields. According to the farmer, cardamom has started to bloom in the Aul area at this time and it is time to grow pomegranate and sprouts in the hilly areas.

The rains have also benefited other fruits and vegetables. As it is the season of potato farming at this time, the rains have benefitted farmers greatly. Farmers say that cash crops like cardamom, fruits and vegetables will benefit from the occasional rains in winter.

Out of 61 wards of nine local levels of the district, cardamom is cultivated in all the wards except Faktanglung village-7 Olangchungola. According to the Agriculture Knowledge Center, cardamom is cultivated in an area of ​​4,302 hectares.
