The counting of votes in the House of Representatives Constituency No. 2 of Rupandehi has halted as it comes to an end. The counting of votes was stopped after the representatives of the ruling coalition and the National Independent Party protested and demanded a re-voting, saying that more ballots were found in the counting than the number of votes cast.
More than 50 extra ballots were found in the ballot box, and representatives of other UML parties did not allow the voting to continue. Out of 81,000 votes, 6,000 votes were left to be counted and the counting was stopped. The parties in the ruling coalition and the National Independent Party have submitted a memorandum to the election officer demanding re-voting.
According to Election Officer Udvir Nepali, it has been mentioned in the voucher that 388 women and 241 men cast a total of 629 votes in Lumbini Commercial Campus 'D' Booth, but the number of women changed while entering the data into the election office's computer.
Before the counting of votes was interrupted, CPN-UML candidate Bishnu Paudel was ahead by more than 1,000 votes in Rupandehi 2. Ganesh Paudel of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party is in second place and Keshav Bahadur Thapa of the Rashtriya Janmukti Party who has the support of the ruling coalition is in third place.
Baburam Panthi, regional in-charge of CPN-UML, said that there is no situation to demand re-voting and said that the counting of votes should start according to the election law.
