Fewer students going to schools due to cold

The number of students going to schools in the hilly areas of the district and in the Terai has started declining due to cold weather in recent days. The teachers of the concerned schools said that there is a vastly lower attendance of students. Rita Kumari Magar, a teacher at Panchakanya Basic School in Rauta Bolungkha, said that the attendance of younger children has started decreasing after the cold increased in the last week.

Daan Bahadur Pulami Magar, a resident of the same place, said that the parents have not sent their children to school saying that the children may get pneumonia or typhoid due to the cold. According to Sumitra Pokharel, a teacher at Saptakoshi Middle School, only 50 percent of the students attend the school daily due to the cold weather.

According to Babunarayan Chaudhary, a teacher at Janata secondary school in Handiya, some parents have started keeping children at home due to the cold weather and fear of COVID. According to the teachers of the schools in Gaighat, the district headquarters, around Belka Municipality, Beltar and Katari Bazar schools of Chaudandi Gadhi Municipality, students are still attending regular schools.
