Five killed in Banke bus-truck collision identified

Five persons who were killed in a road accident that occurred near Kohalpur in Banke on Friday evening have been identified.

They are Uday Batha (21) of Kohalpur Municipality-12; Khagendra Bahadur Sunar (25) of Kohalpur-13; Jeevan Kumar BK (41) of Satakhani-7, Surkhet district; Chhatra Bahadur Katawal (45) of Mechi Municipality-10, Jhapa district and Ambika Kanti (32) of Sukhipur Rural Municipality-3, Siraha district, according to chief at Kohalpur-based Area Police Office, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rabindra Khanal.

Ambika's one-and-a-half-year-old daughter was left unhurt in the accident and she is under the care of Teaching Hospital, Kohalpur, police informed.

A total of 37 people were aboard the bus (Me 1 Kha 3347) when it collided head-on with a tipper truck. The bus was heading towards Dharan from Surkhet. The bus and an 'On Test' container collided near the Rohoni Bridge along the East-West Highway at Kohalpur-13.
