Gas and organic manure production from biomass will start in Damak from April.
According to Vimal Khatiwada, managing director of Next Era Energy Pvt, the organic waste will now be used to produce organic manure used in farms and pots from the gas used in home kitchens. The construction work of the structure to produce energy by processing the decaying waste has reached the final stage. Gas, organic manure and liquid manure will be produced from the waste, said Dorna Thapa, chief of Damak Municipality's sanitation branch. For this, a processing center has been set up in Hansedumse Community Forest Area at Damak-3.
The waste of the city is taken away and the inorganic or plastic and organic and decaying waste is sorted. Out of this waste, organic waste is put in a big tank and decomposes for 15 days. Methane biogas will be produced from the decomposed waste and the produced gas will be processed and distributed through gas pipe i.e. cylinder. Khatiwada, managing director of the company, said that organic manure is produced from the remaining decomposed garbage and liquid manure is produced from the frozen liquid.
According to him, a huge concrete tank with a width of 22 meters and a height of 8.5 meters is being constructed for processing. One thousand 84 kilograms of biogas can be produced daily from here. Similarly, 10,000 kilograms of organic manure and about 7,500 liters of liquid manure can be produced daily, said Thapa. The total cost of construction of the structure is Rs. 205.897 million. The cost participation is Rs. 147 million more for Next Era Energy Pvt., Rohan Traders Pvt. JV and the remaining Rs. 58 million for Alternative Energy Promotion Center. JV had signed the agreement on January 26, 2020.
Damak area produces about 20 tons of garbage daily and 15 tons of garbage is being collected. Out of which, 66.52 percent organic waste is found in Damak area. Paper and paper-based waste is 6.55 percent and plastic and plastic-related waste is 5.37 percent.
