Government to help flood and landslide victims

Compensation will be given to the victims of floods and landslides. The decision was taken by the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management. A council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at Singha Durbar today decided to compensate the victims of floods and inundation.

The meeting decided to provide relief and compensation to the flood and landslide victims in different parts of the country due to incessant rains, according to Prime Minister Deuba's Secretariat.

The government has also decided to provide financial assistance of up to Rs 500,000 for the construction for those whose houses were destroyed by the floods and landslides. As per the decision of the cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, Home Minister Bal Krishna Khan informed.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management on Wednesday, said Anil Pokharel, executive chief of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.

According to him, 20 houses have been destroyed in different districts so far. Pokharel also said that it has been decided to mobilize the entire state machinery for rescue and relief. Similarly, it has been decided to conduct compensation after conducting necessary study on the damage including other agricultural crops. For that, under the coordination of the Ministry of Agriculture, data of the losses across the country will be collected.

Similarly, the Prime Minister has also decided to visit the flood and landslide affected areas, said Pokharel. According to the latest statistics of NEA, 50 people have died and 39 are missing due to floods and landslides across the country.
