"There will be a probe into the Letang incident that occurred in Morang district where a policewoman deployed to maintain law and order is attacked. The government is committed to book the culprits after the investigation," according to Minister Khand.
Policewoman Urmila Shrestha, who was critically injured from the protestors' attack in Morang district, had died on Sunday while receiving treatment. She had sustained sharp weapon wounds in the neck and chest.
Shrestha was killed when a group of agitating local people and students attacked her in a case wherein a local school teacher sexually harassed a 12-year-old girl at Kheruwa in the Morang district. Manoj Paudel, 56, who teaches at Kheruwa-based Sikchha Bikas Secondary School, has been accused of sexually harassing the girl, a sixth-grader student at the same school while celebrating the Holi festival on Friday.
To discuss the matter, an all-party meeting was called for Sunday. But the protesting locals tried to capture and attack the accused teacher in the meeting. In the process, they attacked security forces mobilised to take the situation under control, resulting in the death of Shrestha.
Likewise, Minister Khand has expressed heartfelt condolences to policewoman Shrestha while extending deep sympathies to the bereaved families.
