Police in Parsa district on Thursday arrested an Indian national and his wife who were allegedly involved in human trafficking.

The accused have been identified as Asgar Saifi, a 27-year-old from Champaran in Bihar state, and Sakkina Khatun alias Sita Thapa Chhetri, a 26-year-old resident of Damauli Municipality-5 in Tanahun district.

They allegedly lured two women from the Gorkha district saying they would pay Rs 50,000 each for one hour if the two women would help them perform a ritual in a temple in Nepalgunj, Banke. The Indian couple told the women that they would have to travel to the Inarwa border in Birgunj Metropolitan City-16 to receive the money. On reaching Inarwa, the couple again told the women that they need to go to Betiya in India to receive the money.

Security personnel deployed from the Inarwa-based Police Office nabbed the traffickers and also rescued the women.

They have been charged with the Human Trafficking and Smuggling Control Act, 2064. Further investigation into the case is underway, informed Parsa-based District Police Office.
